In Celebration of My Mom

I am running my 1st half marathon this November! Woo hoo! Facing 40 this year has motivated me to get in better shape and to work toward this goal that I had otherwise viewed as impossible.

In April I walked the Race for the Cure 5k with my Mom, a 15-year survivor of breast cancer. It was an emotional day for both of us as we remembered the impact that her cancer had had on our lives. I was just out of college when my mom was diagnosed. Her prognosis was uncertain. It was the scariest time in my life. She went through chemotherapy and radiation while continuing to work full time. She is an amazing example of courage and strength. I am incredibly grateful that her treatments worked and that I've had her in my life all these years! I am indebted to the Susan G. Komen foundation for all the work they do to educate women and to raise money in search of a cure.
