Just a little over 2 years ago one of my closest friends found out he had breast cancer. Shocked, scared, embarrassed, you name it, he felt it. After a mastectomy and treatment nearly a year passed when yet a totally different cancer appeared in the other breast. Back on the road of uncertainty, now facing yet another mastectomy and treatment, he was forced out of his job and basically became a hermit. A survivor he is and he continues to go for his checkups and each time fearing the worst. This ordeal opened my eyes to the need for change. Recently while Undressing for Success for the kick off of Breast Cancer Awareness month for Komen, I met yet another man who's story of survival and hope hit yet another cord. But it wasn't until I met Alexis, who's husband died of breast cancer that I knew we needed to put our efforts behind a change. With Komen being as large an impact on women and womens breast cancer awareness I thought what better place but here to turn to for help with this massive endeavor. This weekend we are walking for breast cancer awareness and Fighting For The Blue!! This is NOT just a womens disease but in fact has an impact on many men as well. Help save just one life by telling your male friends to perform self breast exams. Spread the word, not the cancer.
