1. What is a matching gift?

A matching gift is when a person makes a donation to a non-profit organization and their employer donates an equal or greater amount to the same group. A matching gift is a great way for a donor to double their contribution in the fight against breast cancer.

2. How do I know if a company will offer a matching gift for a donation?

Visit the Matching Gifts page and search for the name of the company. If the company has matched gifts for Komen Headquarters in the past, it should appear in the search results.

3. How does a donor apply for a matching gift?

To make a matching gift, first go to the Matching Gifts page and use our search tool to find your employer. If the company is in our database, select it and you will see the specific instructions for that company’s matching gifts process. Parent and subsidiary companies within organizations have different requirements and procedures, so please search for each company individually.

4. The matching gift company has a list of non-profit organizations to choose from; which name should I pick?

In order for the matching gift to be verified, it is very important to choose the correct Komen entity to which you made your gift.  Please select “Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Headquarters"  as the Komen entity.  Komen has over 120 Affiliates, each with their own Race for the Cure as well as Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® events held in many U.S. cities and the Global Race for the Cure® held each summer in Washington, DC.  Each Komen entity operates with separate donor databases, mailing addresses, and tax IDs with one exception - the 3-Day for the Cure and Global Race operate with our Headquarters’ tax ID of 75-1835298.  As such, please ensure you select the same Komen entity for your matching gift request to which you made your contribution.  Misdirected matching gift requests will delay processing of your request.  Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Headquarters is not able to verify any donations that were directed to any other Komen entity such as an Affiliate, Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, or Global Race for the Cure®.

The address listed on the company’s database for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Headquarters should be:

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Headquarters
Attn: Donor Services
PO Box 650309
Dallas, TX 75265-0309

5. Can a donor mail the matching gift form to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Headquarters?

Yes, a matching gift form can be mailed to us.  The best practice is to send your matching gift form with your donation.  The donor should complete the matching gift form according to the company’s matching gift instructions, sign, and date.  Please include the donor’s name and address, which must be the same as the check submitted or online donation made through komen.org.  If you are the spouse of the matching gift company’s employee, please ensure that you include your spouse’s name. If your donation was in support of one of the following programs, please indicate on your form that it is for that program:  Passionately Pink for the Cure, Marathon for the Cure, or Rally for the Cure.  We recommend that you keep a copy of the form and note the date that you mailed it.  Matching gift forms should be mailed to:

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Headquarters
Attn: Donor Services
PO Box 650309
Dallas, TX 75265-0309
If the matching gift company has an online matching gift process, the donor will be responsible for completing the matching gift process via the company’s database.

6. How long will it take to process a matching gift form and mail it back to the matching gift company?

It can take 6-8 weeks to process the matching gift form.

7. How long will it take for the matching gift company to issue a check for the matching gift?

If the matching company approves the matching gift, the company will send a check for the matching gift according to their company guidelines. Please contact the matching gift company directly to find out how often matching gift checks are processed and mailed, as it varies for each company.

8. What will happen if a matching gift is not approved by a matching gift company?

If a matching gift company does not approve a matching gift, the company will contact both the donor and the organization with the reason the match was rejected.

9. Where can I see a list of all companies that match Susan G. Komen for the Cure?

Go to the Matching Gifts page, and enter the percent sign (%) in the search function to see a list of all companies in our database.

10. What should I do if I can't find my company in the matching gifts search?

If you didn't find a company in the list, there is a good chance it is no longer eligible, the program has been temporarily suspended, or it is not in the GiftPlus database. Please fill out our new company verification form and HEP researchers will do some further research on the company you requested. Please allow five days for a response. Be assured we'll either verify it is not currently match eligible or add it as a new company to our file.

11. What if I send my matching gift request to a different Komen entity other than to where I made my donation?

The Komen entity receiving the matching gift request, either online or paper form request, will reject the matching gift because they will not be able to verify receipt of your gift. Your matching gift company should notify you that your gift was rejected. If your matching gift request was submitted in paper form, we will either mail you a letter with your original form explaining why we are unable to match your request, or send this same information to your matching gift company if your name and address is not available. If the request was submitted electronically, we will explain to the company why we are unable to verify your matching gift request if they provide an “explanation” section. You will need to contact your matching gift administrator to redirect your gift. To reduce a delay in processing your matching gift request, please ensure you initially select the same Komen entity to which you have submitted your donation. Misdirected matching gift requests may add an additional 6 weeks processing.

12. What if my gift was sent using my donor advised fund, family foundation, etc.?

Please indicate on the matching gift form that the gift was from “XYZ Fund”, “John and Jane Doe Family Foundation”, etc. so we are able to verify your matching gift.  If you made your gift online, please contact us at donorinquiry@komen.org to inform us of the organizational name and address from which the donation was sent.   Please also include the approximated date the check was mailed, the amount, and your name, address, and a daytime phone number so we may contact you if we have any questions.
