Q: What is Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure®?
A: Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® is a grassroots fundraising program in which participants register for a Marathon or a Half Marathon event through Susan G. Komen®. By registering for an event, participants commit to a fundraising minimum which varies based on the Marathon or Half Marathon: $1,000-$1,500 as a registered member through one of our Official Marathon Partners or a $500 minimum as a registered member through our Pledge Program.
Q: Who can participate in Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure®?
A: Subject to the eligibility requirements of the specific Marathon or Half Marathon, anyone over 18 years of age is eligible to participate in Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure®.
Q: Do I have to run the Marathon or Half Marathon or can I walk?
A: Most Marathons or Half Marathons have a time requirement in which the event must be completed; Half Marathons at 4 hours and Marathons at 8 hours (typically). As long as you finish the Marathon or Half Marathon within the time requirements, you may walk or run. To check on the specific time requirements of the event you wish to participate in, please check that event’s website.
Q: How far do I have to walk/run?
A: Full Marathons are a distance of 26.2 miles; Half Marathons are a distance of 13.1 miles.
Q: Do I have to fundraise to register for Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure®?
A: Yes. By participating in Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure®, you commit to a fundraising minimum. The fundraising minimum amount depends on which event you participate in. Participants MUST recommit to fundraising in order to secure their race entry (for the official marathon partners). This is to ensure Susan G. Komen® that you are dedicated to reaching your fundraising minimum. When you recommit online that will authorize Susan G. Komen® to charge the fundraisers’ credit card the remaining balance. If the minimum fundraising amount has not been received by Komen 30 days post event, Susan G. Komen® will not charge your card.
Q: Who can I contact if I have questions?
A: You can contact a Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® representative at marathon@komen.org or 888-405-PINK (7465).
Q: I have reached my minimum, when do I get my New Balance tempo tee?
A: Once you have reached your fundraising minimum, your New Balance Tempo Tee will be ordered and sent to you. In most cases, you will receive the Tempo Tee within three weeks of having met your fundraising minimum.
Q: Can I register with Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® and not have to fundraise?
A: No. Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® is a fundraising program to raise money to help save lives and end breast cancer forever.
Q. Am I no longer responsible for my individual fundraising minimum if I join a team?
A: No. Each team member is still responsible for reaching their individual fundraising minimum.
Q: I am not going to be able to participate; do I still have to fundraise?
A: Yes, you have made a commitment to fundraise when you register, so unless you fall under our injury policy, you will need to meet your fundraising minimum. Please email marathon@komen.org with any questions about our injury policy.
Q: I cannot participate. Can I transfer my participant to another Marathon participant?
A: If you are unable to participate in the event, your donations cannot be transferred to another participant. Your donations will go directly to the breast cancer cause as if you participated, and we hope your donors will appreciate supporting Susan G. Komen® regardless of your participation.
Q: Can I run a Marathon or Half Marathon not listed on the Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® site?
A: Yes. You can fundraise for Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® for a Marathon or Half Marathon through the Pledge Program. You must register for the event on your own to obtain your event entry. After doing so, you will need to register with Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure.
Note: We cannot guarantee your entry to the Marathon or Half Marathon that you choose—it is your responsibility to register with that event.
Q: Even if I want to participant in one of the Official Partner Events listed on your website, can I sign up under the Pledge Program to get a lower fundraising minimum?
A: No, you cannot participate through the Marathon Pledge Program for any Official Partner Events. In order to participate in one of the events listed on our website, you must register through the event and meet the Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® fundraising minimum.
Q: What if I do not raise the fundraising minimum in time?
A: You are responsible for your fundraising commitment at the time of registration. All donations must be postmarked by 15 days after your event to ensure adequate processing time. If you have not met your fundraising minimum two weeks prior to your event, Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® will ask you to make a self-pledge donation to your participant center to recommit to your initial registration. If you do not recommit to your fundraising minimum, your event bib will be pulled and you will not be able to participate in the event (if Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure has secured your entry). No exceptions will be made.
Q: I have reached my fundraising minimum. How do I get my prize code?
A: Prize codes will be ordered approximately 30 days after your event and emailed directly to you. If you have already hit your minimum, we recommend continuing to raise funds in order to get to the next prize level.
Q: When are my donations due?
A: All donations are due not later than 30 days after your event and must be postmarked by 15 days after your event to ensure adequate time for processing. If you have not reached your fundraising minimum 30 days after your event, your credit card will be charged by Susan G. Komen Marathon for the Cure® to bring your donation balance up to meet your minimum fundraising requirement.
