GENERAL

Q: What is Passionately Pink for the Cure®?

A: Susan G. Komen for the Cure® created Passionately Pink for the Cure to help groups of people have fun while raising awareness and funds to help fight breast cancer. To participate, create a team – friends, colleagues, community groups – and plan something fun, wear pink and make donations to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Q: Who participates in Passionately Pink?

A: Everyone is invited! You and your team can go Passionately Pink anywhere from backyard barbeques to lavish black tie affairs. We want everyone to join us in our quest to save lives!

Q: When can I hold my Passionately Pink activity?

A: Each Passionately Pink for the Cure season runs from April 1 to March 31. You may “go pink” any time during this period. For example, this year’s program starts April 1, 2010 and ends March 31, 2011.

Q: What day can we participate in Passionately Pink?

A: You can choose any day of the year. Or choose multiple days!

REGISTRATION

Q: Do I need to register my team every year?

A: Yes. In order to receive our most up-to-date materials, please register your team starting April 1 of each year.

Q: How do I change my contact information once I’ve registered?

A: Please send an e-mail to passionatelypink@komen.org.

Q: Is there a registration fee?

A: No. Registration for Passionately Pink is free, and there is no charge for your event materials. We do this so that you can raise the most funds possible to help fight breast cancer.



DONATIONS

Q: How will the funds raised be used?

A: Eighty-four cents of every dollar Komen raises goes toward our mission: funding life-saving research as well as supporting education, screening and treatment efforts maintained by our local Affiliates nationwide.

Q: Will I receive a tax receipt?

A: Susan G. Komen for the Cure issues receipts for any donation of $10 or more received through the mail by Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Receipts are sent approximately four to six weeks from the date it was deposited. All online donations using credit or debit cards receive immediate acknowledgement. Captains who collect cash donations and convert the cash to a check donation will receive one receipt for the captain only, and only for the total check amount.

Q: Is my donation tax-deductible?

A: Contributions to Susan G. Komen for the Cure may be tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Q: What do I do with the money I collect?

A: Ensure that all checks are made out to “Susan G. Komen for the Cure,” and mail checks to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P.O. Box 5027, Hagerstown, MD 21741. Please use regular mail -- we use a P.O. Box and cannot accept FedEx or other express deliveries. Be sure to mark your donations for Passionately Pink for the Cure and include your team ID on all checks. Please do not send cash - convert it to a check or money order.

Q: When are the donations due?

A: We encourage team captains to send in their donations as soon as their Passionately Pink for the Cure donations are collected, but donations may be sent in at any time throughout the year.

Q: Can donations be made online?

A: We encourage it! Donors can either click Find a Team on this Web site and find the team's donation page, or go directly to the team's donation page using the team URL, and charge their contributions using credit or debit cards. Online donors receive immediate electronic acknowledgements, and you don’t have to worry about sending checks by mail.

Q: How should checks be made out?

A: Please make checks payable to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and include your team ID number on all checks. Checks should all be submitted to the team captain to be mailed back with a completed donation reply form.

Q: How do I keep track of the individual donations I’ve received for Passionately Pink for the Cure?

A: We strongly recommend that all Passionately Pink team captains keep records of the individual donations they receive. You can list out individual checks on the donation reply form.

Q: What is my team ID number?

A: Your team ID number is an important part of the donation process, and lets us know how to allocate donations throughout our Affiliates. Your team ID is located on your team’s web page. You can also get your team ID number by e-mailing us at passionatelypink@komen.org or by calling us at 1-877 GO KOMEN (1-877-465-6636).

Q: Can my gift be matched? 

A: If your company matches gifts to nonprofit organizations, find out if Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one of them.

Q: How do I update my Team Center fundraising goal to reflect current donations?

A: Online donations made through your Team Center are automatically reflected on your Progress Page. To include offline donations (cash, checks) on your Progress Page, go to your Overview Page and click on “Enter a New Gift.”

Q: What if I need a W-9 form, 501(c)(3) form or additional paperwork to complete my donation?

A: If you need additional information in order to make a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, please e-mail us at passionatelypink@komen.org.

Q: How do I order merchandise?

A: Susan G. Komen for the Cure merchandise can be found at www.shopkomen.com.

Q: May we create and sell our own Passionately Pink items?

A: If you have an idea for merchandise, please contact us at passionatelypink@komen.org or call 1-877 GO KOMEN (1-877-465-6636) and press 3.

Q: What if I need additional captain’s kit materials?

A: You can download, customize and print additional materials directly from the Web site. 

Q: What do I do with any extra captain’s kit materials?

A: Either use them for additional Passionately Pink efforts, or send materials that are in good condition back to Susan G. Komen for the Cure at P.O. Box 5027, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

A: No, Komen is no longer the recipient of funds raised through that program.

Q: Is Susan G. Komen for the Cure a nonprofit organization?

A: Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a public charity exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
