14 years have now passed since my first Race for the Cure where I was full of hope walking in Celebration of my Meema being a survivor! About a week later we found the cancer had spread and had consumed her entire body and nothing could be done but keep her comfortable. In less than 2 weeks from walking in my first Race for the Cure my Meema passed away.
Since initially getting involved and supporting the Komen Foundation and Race for the Cure, now More Than Pink, I have had an Aunt who has become a Survivor, and gained team members and friends who are SURVIVORS. But unfortunately, awful disease also took another very dear family member way too soon and left a hole in the heart of many. Throughout the 14 years, too many people I know and love have been impacted by this awful disease, one way or another.
One thing to remember, breast cancer doesn't discriminate and it impacts men and women. If a woman is diagnosed she is not alone, her entire family and friends are battling with her. Take the step to help find a cure and/or help fund a mammogram for someone who can't afford one.
I encourage you to get involved whether it is walking or donating. Help fund a cure!
