In 2023, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. I spent my 30th birthday getting a double mastectomy followed by chemotherapy. I was lucky to catch the cancer early because I knew I had the BRCA gene and had been getting proactive MRI screenings every 6 months. So many other women that we race for were not so lucky, including my dad's sister who was diagnosed at 33 and passed away a few years later.
She’s the reason that I was tested for BRCA and I'm grateful every single day. Had it not been for my MRI screenings, my oncologist told me it would've taken 2-3 years to feel a lump.
I'm incredibly passionate about the Susan G. Komen mission of ending breast cancer forever. My hope is that the breakthrough research Komen is funding today will ensure that the next generation races in celebration instead of for a cure. And in the meantime, I'm proud to come together and race to ensure that all women and men have access to quality screening, diagnosis, and treatment for breast cancer. I hope you will consider supporting me!
