Two sisters. Two left breasts. Two breast cancers each in both left breasts. TWO SURVIVORS!
My sister, Margaret, joined me in becoming a two-time breast cancer survivor in November 2019. This was 23 years after her mastectomy and TRAM flap surgery in 1996. The lump was below her TRAM flap. Go figure.
Cancer doesn’t run in our family, and we don’t have any of the breast cancer genes that have been discovered thus far. What we do have is passion to end breast cancer forever.
Due to COVID-19, the Komen Charlotte Race for the Cure will be virtual this year. While we may not be able to gather in a large group in Uptown Charlotte, we will keep our mission moving forward from communities and neighborhoods across our 13 counties and share experiences on Race day through social media, TV and more.
My team is “Neel – Kick BC’s Butt.” I named it that because Margaret and I and many others are kicking breast cancer’s butt, and we don’t plan to stop! I hope you will join my team, invite your friends to join you and walk where you live, and help me reach my $5,000 goal. The money raised helps save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our community and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
Breast cancer doesn’t stop because of the virus. Neither will we.
