GENERAL

Q: What is the Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta fundraising projects program?

A: The fundraising projects program is a personal fundraising booster! People who register receive a fundraising webpage, breast health information and much more all geared toward enhancing fundraising efforts. It’s easy to register - just go to www.komenatlanta.org and click on the “Fundraise” button at the top right of the screen.

Q: Who participates in Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta fundraising projects?

A: Anyone can create a fundraising project! We’ve seen activities at offices and schools, in homes and community centers, even outdoors. We just ask that the fundraising project donations be voluntary - not predicated on the sale or purchase of commercial goods or services. Q: When can I create a fundraising project?

A: You can create a fundraising project any time of the year - pick a day, a week, a month… whatever works best for you.

Q: Who do I contact if I have questions?

REGISTRATION

Q: Do I need to register every year?

A: Yes, we do require registration each year, even if you’ve created a fundraising project page before. Every year we update our materials and resources for you.

If you need to re-register, it takes just a few minutes. Go to www.komenatlanta.org, click on the “Fundraise” button at the top right of the screen, and when prompted indicate you are a returning registrant. Your contact information will be automatically filled in to help save you some time.

Q: How do I change my contact information once I’ve registered?

A: To change your contact information, event date, or any other information, please send an e-mail to info@komenatlanta.org and be sure to reference your Constituent ID/Username (if you know it).

Q: Is there a registration fee?

A: There is no registration fee to create a fundraising project.


DONATIONS

Q: How will the funds raised through my fundraising project be used?

A: Susan G. Komen® Greater Atlanta is extremely proud of the financial stewardship we offer for the donations our supporters give. Our Headquarters organization and its affiliate organizations, including Komen Atlanta, are accredited by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance. Fundraising project donations help support local breast health screening and education programs and help fund global breast cancer research to find the cures.

Q: Will I receive a tax receipt for my donation?

A: Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta issues receipts for any donation of $125 or more received by check through the mail. Please do not send cash. If your donation is in cash form, you will not get a tax receipt. Receipts should arrive by mail approximately four to six weeks from the date it was deposited. If you make an online donation using a credit or debit card, you’ll receive an immediate acknowledgement. To ensure you receive a tax receipt, please donate with a credit or debit card or write a check to “Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta”. Donation reply forms, including the Komen Atlanta mailing address, are available to download from the fundraising project website. Don’t forget to include your name and event name!

Q: Is my donation tax-deductible?

A: Contributions to Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta may be tax-deductible to the fullest extent permissible by law. Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your gift.

Q: If a business donates items (like food or auction items) for my fundraising project, can I get a tax receipt for that donation?

A: Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta can only accept in-kind donations pursuant to a written agreement between you and Komen Atlanta.

Q: What do I do with the donations I collect from my fundraising project

A: First, ensure that all checks are made out to “Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta” and reference your Event Name. If you want these donations reflected on the fundraising thermometer on your fundraising webpage, log in to your Participant Center and report these gifts on the Progress Page.

Please do not send cash - convert any cash donations to a check or money order.

Then, mail the donations to Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, P.O. Box 934048, Atlanta, GA 31193-4048 Be sure to mark your donations for DIY Fundraising Projects and include your Name and Event Name on all checks.

An Offline Donation Form can also be downloaded from the fundraising projects website.

Q: When are the donations due?

A: Donations should be submitted within 90 days of the completion of your fundraising activities, but no later than 1 year after registering for your fundraising project. However, we encourage you to send in donations as soon as they are collected.

Q: Can donations be made online?

A: We encourage online donations! Donors can search for an individual or team on the fundraising projects website to find a specific fundraising page. Online credit or debit card transactions are secure, and online donors receive an immediate electronic acknowledgement.

Q: How do I know if Komen Atlanta has received mailed donations?

A: Komen Atlanta sends gift acknowledgements/tax receipts to the name/address as it appears on the donation check or money order (if amount exceeds $125). Donors should receive these acknowledgements through the mail 4 to 6 weeks after the check has been deposited.

Q: How should checks be made out?

A: Please make checks payable to “Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta” and include your Name and Event Name on all checks. Checks should be accompanied by a completed Offline Donation Form and mailed to: Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, P.O. Box 934048, Atlanta, GA 31193-4048.

Q: How do I keep track of the individual donations I’ve received for my fundraising project?

A: We strongly recommend that all fundraising project participants keep records of the individual donations they receive, and enter them in their Participant Center.

Q: Can my gift be matched?

A: Many companies offer matching gift programs for charitable donations, and each matching gift program is different. Ask your HR department if your company has a matching gift program, then ask if Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta is eligible for your company’s program. If both answers are yes, then your HR department should be able to provide you with the necessary forms and instructions.

Q: Do I need a W-9 form, 501(c)(3) form or additional paperwork to complete my donation?

A: If you need additional information in order to make a donation to Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta, please e-mail us at info@komenatlanta.org.

Q: What is my Constituent ID/Username and why is it so important?

A: Every participant is assigned a Constituent ID/Username, or you create your own Constituent ID/Username at the time of registration. It also appears in your participant center, and helps us ensure your event’s donations are tracked accurately.

If you forgot your Constituent ID/Username and cannot access your Participant Center, please call 404-814-0052 or send an email to info@komenatlanta.org.

Q: How do I update my online fundraising thermometer to reflect current donations?

A: Online credit or debit card donations through your fundraising page are automatically reflected on your fundraising thermometer. However, you must manually enter cash or check donations to be reflected on the thermometer.

To record cash/check donations on your fundraising thermometer, go to your Participant Center. Click on the Progress Page and click on “Enter a New Gift.” You can enter the dollar amount only or include the donors’ names.


MATERIALS & MERCHANDISE

Q: Can Susan G. Komen® Greater Atlanta donate any wristbands or giveaways for my fundraising event?

A: While we cannot provide giveaways, people who register a fundraising event on the fundraising project website receive a variety of support materials, including a fundraising webpage and the option to purchase multiple fundraising kits, which are a great way to thank donors. Officially-licensed Susan G. Komen merchandise can be purchased at www.shopkomen.com/atlanta.

Q: Where can I buy Running Ribbon merchandise?

A: Officially-licensed Susan G. Komen merchandise can be purchased at Shop Komen.

Q: May we create and sell our own fundraising project items?

A: Registered fundraising project participants may NOT create or sell items with the Susan G. Komen or Komen Atlanta logo or the Running Ribbon. For more information please email us at info@komenatlanta.org.

Q: Can I use the Susan G. Komen® or Komen Atlanta logo on my event materials?

A: Registered fundraising project participants may NOT use the Susan G. Komen or Komen Atlanta logo or the Running Ribbon on event materials other than those provided to you by Komen Atlanta, which may not be altered or modified in any way.
