About the Event

The Susan G. Komen Vermont Ride for the Cure®, will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023. We are pleased to offer an “in-person” Ride experience at the Green Mountain Horse Association in South Woodstock, VT. While we look forward to seeing all riders in-person on October 9, we are continuing to offer a virtual registration option: Ride Where You Want/Ride What You Want*.

Registered horseback riders taking part at GMHA will have the opportunity to enjoy a scenic, pleasure trail ride (between 5-9 miles). Those choosing to “Ride Where You Are” will have the opportunity to choose their own ride mileage. We thank all our registered riders for raising funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, while celebrating breast cancer survivorship and honoring those who have lost their battle with the disease.

*Attn Cyclists and other Non-Horseback Riders, you are invited to Ride with us in 2023! Register as an individual, form a team, or join a team, and “Ride What You Want” (wherever you want) as a Virtual Adult or Virtual Youth (ages 12-17). We thank you for riding in support Susan G. Komen. Click here for more Ride What You Want information.

IMPORTANT: In-Person Ride Participants - ONLY you and your horses are allowed on the trails at GMHA.

Virtual "Ride What You Want" participants, this is all Non-Horseback Riders (ie cyclists), you must ride elsewhere.

LoisWhile I am pleased to be hosting our 14th Annual Vermont Ride for the Cure on Monday, October 9, I sadly share the news that our dear friend, and founder of the Vermont Ride for the Cure, Lois Steele Whidden died on April 20, 2023.

I am humbled to announce that this year’s Vermont Ride for the Cure is being dedicated In Memory of Lois Steele Whidden!

For those of you who knew Lois as the founder and chair of Vermont Ride for the Cure, accomplished horsewoman and amazing person, you know how big a loss this is for her family, friends, and community, as well as for all of us at Susan G. Komen connected to the VT Ride.

Lois was always pleased to share the impact of the VT Ride. This year I report that over 13 years of Ride for the Cure events in Vermont, and New Hampshire, riders, their supporters and generous sponsors have raised over $447,000, allowing Susan G. Komen to assist people facing a breast cancer diagnosis with breast care navigation services, and financial and emotional assistance, as well as supporting breast cancer research and advocacy.

We will continue to do Lois’ good work through the Ride for the Cure and raise the funds needed to support Susan G. Komen’s financial and emotional assistance programs, as well as funds for the research that will one day put an end to breast cancer forever, and funds for advocacy to ensure health equity, ie equal access to quality treatment and care for all, no matter where someone lives.
