As director of programs at Susan G Komen Oregon & SW Washington, I often say that, I'm on the programs side, so I like to spend the money and not ask for it... And, outside of the Komen 3-Day a few years ago, I usually just quietly join and donate to the Komen staff team. But, well, this year is different.
You know the story... We're in a pandemic-led recession, and fundraising is especially important and difficult right now. We are doing what we can to keep our team whole while continuing to serve the people of Oregon & SW Washington. For us, that means focusing on our Treatment Access Program and our programs in the Portland-metro area African American community, as well as pivoting to virtual education / opportunities for connection, especially for our metastatic breast cancer community. The More Than Pink Walk is a major revenue generator for us.
Since the Walk is virtual, this year, anyone can join from anywhere! You can walk around your neighborhood in support of those in their breast cancer journey. But, if you're in PDX on Sunday, August 23rd, and interested, I'll be leading a physically-distant walk from my house (depending on the number of people - either to/through Reed Canyon or around Woodstock / Eastmoreland) that you are welcome to join. Our development team is also coming up with some fun interactive ideas, so there may be some official fun thrown in, as well.
Will you please join me in this fight by making a donation and/or joining my team today?
